New Westminster (also known as New West) is a city in the Lower Mainland region of British Columbia, Canada, and a member municipality of the Metro Vancouver Regional District. It was founded by Major-General Richard Moody as the capital of the newborn Colony of British Columbia in 1858, and continued in that role until the Mainland and Island Colonies were merged in 1866. It was the British Columbia Mainland's largest city from that year until it was passed in population by Vancouver during the first decade of the 20th century.

The main business strip in New Westminster can be found down Columbia Street. Known for several wedding dress shops, cafés and restaurants. Other places of business can be found in the New Westminster Quay where you'll find an amazing farmers market and other shops that sell specialty cheeses and cured meats. The shopping malls in New West include Royal City Center, Moody Mall and Westminster Centre.

Access to Bridges & HWYs and multiple cities

New Westminster has several ways to enter or exit the city making it very accessible. Both Columbia Street and Royal Ave can get congested during traffic hours however there are multiple roads and so-called 'ninja routes' that can be taken to avoid the traffic. New West is also nestled between 2 bridges making it easy for one to travel from Richmond to Scott Road in Surrey.
